In the church I went to growing up, we used to have women we called the old mothers. They sang spirituals, they prayed, they dressed in all white, and waved white hankerchiefs as the choir sang. I guess they acted as watch-women over the pastor, the message, and the congregation.
Whenever a series of tragedies hit the world, or someone in the congregation, you would hear them say, “Satan is busy!”
It definitely fits for this week, with a mass shooting at a Spa in Atlanta, bookended by a mass shooting at a King Sooper grocery store in Boulder, Colorado.
