“Like a d-mn sociopath,” rising pop star Olivia Rodrigo appeared Wednesday in the White House Briefing Room to explain why people should receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I am beyond honored and humbled to be here today to help spread the message about the importance of youth vaccinations,” Rodrigo said Wednesday. “I’m in awe of the work President Biden and Dr. Fauci have done and was happy to help lend my support to this important initiative.”

In this regrettably (and laughably) obvious turn of events, the star proved herself no different than the rest of the Hollywood elite who think hardworking Americans want to hear their political opinions. Rodrigo’s speech was underwhelming and useless, but the message was nowhere near as bad as the person delivering it.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I predicted in The Federalist something like this might happen: “Rodrigo’s honesty only goes one of two ways: she transforms into one of these ’empowerment’ figures when mainstream culture demands it, or she loses fame as she grows older. Let’s hope Rodrigo chooses the latter and keeps her identity.”

Using Rodrigo to push the youth vaccination campaign indicates the White House values the opinion of a girl singing about ex-boyfriends and teenage drama over experts, professionals, or knowledgeable citizens who might add something to the discussion. The press briefing room should not exist as a virtue-signaling platform for pop stars. 

Kids may become inspired to do something this serious because a pop singer told them to. But adults should see Rodrigo as what she is: an 18-year-old Disney actress who’s enamored of fame and woefully lacking meaningful substance.

While Rodrigo struts around the White House in her vintage Chanel miniskirt, the rest of us are still waiting on the Biden administration to deliver real answers to real problems. But instead of finding solutions to government-induced inflation, heinous crime rates,
