Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who previously voted in favor of President Trump’s impeachment, announced her support of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s rejection of ranking Republicans from her January 6 commission.

Cheney’s support comes just months after she criticized the speaker, saying Pelosi has “no business determining which Republicans sit on committees,” adding that such a move “sets a dangerous precedent for this institution.”

Cheney’s past statements now contradict what she told the press Thursday, that she agrees with Pelosi’s decision to reject both Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, both of whom were selected by House Minority Leader McCarthy.

It is unclear why exactly Congresswoman Cheney has decided to take the side of Speaker Pelosi rather than that of Leader McCarthy or other members of her own party after previously denouncing Pelosi’s efforts to control which Republicans sat on committees.

Cheney has however become increasingly critical of Leader McCarthy, telling members of the media Thursday that  “Any person who would be third in line to the presidency must demonstrate a commitment to the Constitution and a commitment to the rule of law, and Minority Leader McCarthy has not done that.”

McCarthy, who has threatened to remove all five Republicans from the committee in response to Pelosi’s move, blasted Pelosi in a radio interview with Mark Levin, asserting that “she has destroyed the institution, I don’t care whether its this committee or any other committee.”

“Now she wants to tell who Republicans can pick, the only Republican that will follow her is Liz Cheney, you can understand why,” with Levin saying that Cheney has “gotten even worse” and that she has “lost it.”
